Any Advice??

I am an extremely active 45 yr. old male. I have added 1 hr of weight training and 30 min. of cardio 3 times a week for the last 3 months.

I recently lost 54 lbs on a 5 meal a day program of all clean eating, Flank steak, salmon, chicken breast, Br. rice etc... The diet seemed to have hit a road block. I tried exchanging two of the meals with protein drinks in attempt to reduce calories, still nothing. I added the above training in effort to break the plateau.

I would like to lose another 25lbs.

I have been consuming between 1700 to 2000 cal. per day. Statistics say I should be losing weight but I am not.

I am beginning to think I may not be consuming enough calories and stalled my metabolism.

Is This possible??

Thanks,
VC

It is very possible, vcinri, that you are not taking in enough calories to fuel your body and that you have caused your metabolism to slow. Especially with your added workouts, your caloric intake is definitely not enough for a male. Have you also noticed additional muscle gain? This could contribute to your weight loss plateau. You may still be losing fat, but gaining muscle, which is more dense than the fat. You should try adding more calories around your workouts so that you are getting the fuel to get the most out of your workouts. I would suggest keeping your 5 meals a day, with the ADDITION of a shake after workout (within 30 minutes) in order to get protein to your muscles to build up what you just broke down from lifting.

Hope this is helpful!! Good luck!

Well, you're certainly on the right track. I think you're seeing the plateau effect, of losing weight rapidly in the beginning, and then it levels off. It can certainly be frustrating. I'd say be patient and persistent, and you will get those last pounds off.
