Statins and heart health

Recently my doctor told me that i need to take a generic statin drug for my high blood pressure. Does anyone know what i should be taking along with this besides the basic multi vit to keep my heart healthy???

I am now taking a Coq10 supplement. I guess statins deplete the body of coq10. I will update you all as i hopefully feel better!!

Wow, I am learning so much! The statins the Dr put me on are notorious for depleting the body of Coq10. Coq10's starring role seems to be the generation of energy in the body. Kind of a catalyst for your metabolism. As we age, our bodies can't produce Coq10 the way it did when we were younger. So not only do I have the statins against me but also the aging process. Jeez!

I am now taking a softgel form of Coq10 from a company called Emperors Essentials. The gentleman told me a softgel provides better absorption than a caplet or tablet. It also has a lipid tri-blend formulation- also enhancing absorption.

I fully expect to feel fantastic in the near future. I will certainly keep everyone informed.

Now I need to find a good multi-vit and a heart healthy diet plan. I appreciate any input and/or advice.
Thanks!

Thanks!

Personally, I like NOW Foods brand vitamins. I order mine online at nutraplanet.com . They have reasonable prices and great service! NOW brand has great multis, and also have CoQ10 in case you need to get more. I also sometimes order the green tea and Omega 3. Both are great for your health and diet (green tea for antioxidants and Omega 3 for your essential fats).

I am a HUGE fan of green tea. I was really surprised to learn it lowers blood pressure & LDL cholesterol.

Hi. I have been taking the coq10 for a while now and am happy to report I am feeling more energetic & my skin looks great! I didn't know coq10 has an anti-aging effect as well.

I am glad I joined this group because I have learned so much. I really appreciate everyone's guidance. I am looking foward to what I can learn in the future!!!

I was rereading my posts and thought I'd give a quick update. When the Dr first put me on satins I was DRAINED all the time. I have been taking Coq10 ( Emperors Essentials ) on a daily basis for some time now and it has really helped. I did a little research and discovered statins do deplete the body of Coq10. Coq10 is the KEY nutrient for generating 95% of total energy required by the human body. No wonder I was so sluggish. With a little luck I will be off statins soon but I think I will take Emperors Essentials from now on- it is also GREAT for your skin!!
